Learn to Sail

    Learn to Sail programmes at Kerikeri’s Lake Manuwai are just the way to get started in sailing. Enquire here

    The courses offer the opportunity for both children and adults to learn to sail. No experience is required. All the instructors are volunteers, trained to Yachting New Zealand (YNZ) standards and the courses are run in accordance with YNZ guidelines. 

Advanced tuition in your own boat can also be arranged. All sizes and types of boat catered for.

    Yachting New Zealand Basic Certificate Courses Levels 1 & 2
    This course introduces absolute beginners to sailing, is a great way for new Club members to get involved and meet people, and offers children a safe organised sailing programme that their parents can be involved in. Level 1 will teach you…

    Courses are run on Saturday mornings from 9.00am to midday in October/November and February/March/April.

    They are run at Lake Manuwai with boats and buoyancy aids provided. The course cost includes a Yachting NZ log book that covers all the theory aspects but the courses are mainly practical. There are YNZ qualified instructors running the courses. The courses cost $60 for the Level 1 and $50 for a Level 2. The length of the courses depends on the sailors the cost covers their training until they pass (or decide to stop) most sailors take around ten weeks to complete a level.

    Mistral sailing for all ages
    These courses are run on Saturday afternoons from 1.00-4.00 pm. in October/November and February/March/April. They are run at Lake Manuwai with boats and buoyancy provided. Two handed boats with moderately competent skippers training less competent crews are used. The activities are to some extent based round team racing to give a concentrated introduction to all aspects of boat handling and rules. Costs are $5 per person per week for eight weeks.

    Optimist sailing for kids
    Intermediate “Green Fleet” Optimist courses suit young sailors who have passed beyond the YNZ Level I & II courses and are interested in a wider range of activities mainly in their own boats.
